Handmade African Krobo beads in shades of blue and green are the focal point of the unique bracelet. The Krobo beads are accented with black onyx beads. The bracelet is finished with a TierraCast toggle clasp.
The bracelet shown here is approximately 7-3/4" in length.
Krobo beads are made by hand from recycled glass which has been ground up in a large mortar and pestle and then fired using traditional techniques in open-sided, thatch-roofed huts. After the original bead is fired, it is cooled and washed. Then the bead maker begins the process of painting his highly individualized designs using items like twigs as a brush. After each color is applied, the beads are re-fired. These beads can have as many as five or six different colors on them.
Soul of Somanya sells the Krobo beads used in this bracelet. They are an awesome non-profit charity which teaches young people of Somanya, Ghana, West Africa a trade.
The TierraCast clasp is made from culinary grade pewter and electroplated with fine silver and copper. TierraCast is known for its high quality.
Our handcrafted jewelry is created by combining the unique skills of creating dichroic or art glass cabochons together with wire-wrapping. The result is a one-of-a-kind jewel for you to wear.
One of the unique characteristics of dichroic glass is its reflecting color. Pictures don't really express the true beauty and depth of the piece. Carapace said the following about a pendant she won: "Wow. Wow! The pendant came today. It's amazing-the pictures didn't even come close to doing it justice. The wire wrapping is so liquid, I love the way it twirls around the glass-and the glass looks like a field of blue fireworks! It's just an amazing piece, and I'm so thrilled to have it. Thank you so much!"
We also create bracelets, earrings and other items using a combination of lampwork, African Krobo, sterling silver, Tierra Cast and other beads and findings.
